We are getting ready to go in the morning.  Travel plan is to make about 200 miles and overnight at a rest stop just west of Deming, NM.  Supposed to be a very nice place, security, covered tables, level pull through sites.  I’ve read it rivals some campgrounds.  Regardless a quick departure on Tuesday AM is the goal and this kind of stop should really fill the bill.

So on Tues AM we will get up early (??) and continue east.  The destination for Tues PM is a 240 mile roll from the rest stop and just at the top of the Guadalupe Pass, the National park is Guadalupe Mts NP – Pine Springs Campground.

I was reading a number of the posts in one of the groups on RVillage the other day and found a web site I had not come across before.

http://www.ultimatecampgrounds.com/uc/index.php

This resource is a great way to begin a search, the variety of campgrounds is comprehensive.  Prior to finding this site, I had us routed in State Parks in New Mexico, COE CG in Santa Fe, and in Colorado at Private Campgrounds using the Passport America Membership, (Colorado is just too proud of their facilities).  I made adjustments to our travel plan and trimmed almost $300.oo from the 30 day run to Colorado.  We are not supposed to get to our destination till mid May.

I am really looking forward to the trip, we now plan to do a lot of dry camping along the way.  Our plan is a nine day stay on BLM if things check out and we can get into the spot.  All reviews say we should have no problems.  To be sure we plan to take two nights in a State Park CG near Carlsbad, check out the BLM options from there and if things look good go for it.  The two nights will give us the opportunity to go to Carlsbad Caverns, Grocery shop, fill the water tank, rinse and dump the black and grey tanks and be ready for nine days of SOLITUDE.  This will be our first real dry camping experience since we left St. Louis.  Hope that location checks out.

That is the first few days and we have a lot of adventure built into this trip.  I will post updates of our trip as we roll, there may be a few times along the way when we will be in a a blacked out area, kind of like when the Apollo capsule went to the dark side of the moon (remember that).  Radio Silence but we will post as signal is available.  Thanks for joining us on the adventure.
